만 명이나, 어쩌면 더 많은 이들을

절대 목소리로 나누지 않을 곡을 썼네

그리고 누구도 감히

침묵의 소리를 거스르지 못했네

그리고 그 표지는 경고를 발했네

그것이 이루는 말들로

그 표지 말하길:

선지자들의 말들은
Written on the subway walls
지하철 벽에 적혀 있지 
And tenement halls
또한 공동 현관에
And whispered in the sound of silence.
그리고 침묵의 소리로 속삭인다네

의외로 처음 발매됐을때는 큰 히트를 못 쳤었다고 함 아니어떻게 

위에 삽입된 어쿠스틱판은 쫄딱 망했고 일렉 사운드가 가미되게 믹싱을 다시 하고나서야 떴다는 비화가...

근데 솔직히 이쪽이 더 익숙하고 귀에 착 감기긴 한다 ㅋㅋㅋ

마이크 니콜스 감독의 <졸업(1967)> 에 사용된 바 있음
